About

A guy in his mid-twenties who lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I am an active participant in the emerging conversation, a political junkie, Mac enthusiast and sports nut.

I am the Web Editor of Wired Oregon, a news Web site that covers the people, places and politics of Oregon.

Prior to Wired Oregon, I worked for more than two years as a copy and online editor for the sports department of The Register-Guard, Eugene’s daily newspaper. Additionally, I have worked in the office of now Oregon House Speaker Dave Hunt (then just a lowly representative), and on a statewide campaign for Rick Dancer, the 2008 Republican nominee to become Oregon’s Secretary of State.

While working in Rep. Hunt’s office during the 2005 legislative session, I was a moderate Republican working for a member of the Democratic leadership. While working for Dancer’s campaign in 2008, I was a moderate Democrat working for the Republican nominee. I’m not sure either party can trust me, but I hope that it serves as a testament that I will support a person I believe in 100-percent, regardless of their label.

Much of my writing can be considered part of the larger emerging conversation. Additionally, most books I choose to read deal with theology, spirituality, our ever changing world and how it applies to Christianity.

That said, I’m not much of a fan of organized religion. It has been well over a year since I’ve steped foot in a church service, and I’m not sure I see that changing anytime soon.

Since Oregon is home to only one major professional sports franchise, at a young age I adopted the state of Arizona’s professional teams as my own, having been born in Phoenix. Though I never played baseball past the first grade, it has grown to become my favorite sport, making the Arizona Diamondbacks my favorite team. Also growing up in Eugene, there is no escaping becoming a fan of the Oregon Ducks, a university I would later grow up to attend.

When I was in eighth grade I dreamt of becoming a sports journalist. Not knowing any better, I started a club on AOL (those were the 28k dial-up days) for the Arizona State Sun Devils where I wrote stories about their football, men’s basketball and baseball teams. I also began to pick up web design skills. Five years after starting the club, Rivals.com one of the larger college sports networks, acquired the site from me and a partner I picked up along the way. I’m no Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, creating the next multi-billion dollar tech company, but I’m proud I was able to reach for a dream at a young age, and after a few years of hard work, be rewarded for it.

Though I haven’t sung in public in several years, most of my childhood through high school was spent as a member of prestigious choral groups. I was lucky to be trained by musical genius’ and travel across the world. Music is very much a part of my life, and there are few moments in life more euphoric than when I discover that perfect song to articulate my thoughts, feelings and being; it’s my inner-poet finding it’s vessel.

I’m glad that you’ve stumbled upon my online home, and encourage you to have a look around and join the conversation by commenting on posts.
